EJONA XEGA (Eh-yo-na Tz-e-ga) is an associate developing a broad and diverse practice. Ejona is a passionate advocate who enjoys working collaboratively with her clients at each step of a legal proceeding. She finds practical, cost-effective and creative legal arguments to resolve an issue, while also being willing and well prepared to take a matter to trial when necessary.
Ejona articled with Stieber Berlach and has argued before the Court of Appeal of Ontario, Ontario’s Superior Court of Justice and Divisional Court, Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, and also assisted in various high-profile cases and in matters that went to the Supreme Court of Canada.
She represents clients involved in wide-ranging issues including class actions, construction, professional liability, products liability, municipal liability, and personal injury.
Ejona is a member of the Advocates’ Society and the Ontario Bar Association. Prior to attending law school, she was an intern with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe in Vienna, Austria.
- Successfully argued at the Divisional Court that the Applicant lacked both private and public standing to bring an application for judicial review of a regulator’s decision to grant a licence to the Applicant’s competitor, resulting in the dismissal of the whole application. - Successfully represented numerous Children’s Aid Societies at the Court of Appeal in upholding decision to dismiss claims of negligence and Charter breaches against them by families of children in their care. - Successfully argued at the Court of Appeal that proposed Intervenors would not make a useful contribution not addressed by the existing parties (Docket: M51016 (C67044))
- Successfully brought motions to dismiss for delay and obtained costs in various actions
