Appellate Advocacy

Our in-depth legal research, persuasive written argument, and articulate and engaging oral arguments all contribute to our successful appellate practice.

Stieber Berlach lawyers have argued appeals at the Supreme Court of Canada, Provincial Courts of Appeal, the Divisional Court in Ontario and at judicial reviews of tribunal decisions. We conduct appeals from our own trials or motions and are also routinely sought out by third parties to handle their appeals.

Oral argument in a court of appeals differs from trial or motion arguments. Appellate advocacy involves a structured discussion focused exclusively on the legal principles in dispute – not the people or parties involved.

We zero in on the specific error or issue of interest to the appellate court. Our precise and in-depth legal research; concise, persuasive written argument; and articulate and engaging oral arguments all contribute to our successful appellate practice. We welcome the opportunity to answer questions from the appeal court and engage in a meaningful discussion regarding the legal issues involved.
