Emily R. McKernan

EMILY MCKERNAN is consistently recognized by her clients for the exceptional service she provides. She regularly acts for hospitals and a wide range of professionals such as nurses, accountants, and other regulated healthcare providers in civil actions and disciplinary proceedings. Emily also maintains an active practice in employment law and human rights litigation, and she holds a certificate in Workplace Investigations. She has a strong interest in education law matters, and is a past member of the Executive of the Ontario Bar Association’s Education Law Section.

Emily offers her clients a practical approach combined with strong litigation experience. She has been counsel on jury and non-jury trials. She has represented clients in hearings before various administrative tribunals, including the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board. She has appeared in appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Superior Court of Justice. She has appeared as amicus curiae.

Prior to joining Stieber Berlach LLP, Emily worked at a premier litigation boutique in Toronto. From 2006-2007, she clerked for the Justices of the Ontario Court of Appeal. Emily spent two years of her career as a children’s rights litigator. Emily obtained her law degree from Queen’s University. While in law school, Emily won awards in tort law, constitutional law, criminal law and for overall academic achievement.
